QuikVue Vet Case Share-bilateral retinal detachment in a European cat.

06/25/25

We are glad to share a vet case study captured by QuikVue eye imaging adaptor from Dr Vet Viroux.

It was a cat presented with a syncopal episode in the morning, associated with blindness for several days. The blood pressure was measured at 250 mmHg, and treatment was initiated with amlodipine 1.25 mg, one tablet per day, due to the severe hypertension.

15 days after the first visit, with the dosage increased to one tablet of amlodipine twice daily, the blood pressure has stabilized at 130 mmHg, and vision has been restored.

However, the prolonged detachment causes damage to the neuroretina, which will likely lead to atrophy and permanent vision loss. The only unknown is the time frame, particularly if the hypertension remains well-controlled to prevent another hypertensive retinopathy.
